CHICAGO “The Windy City”

Chicago or “Chicagoland” affectionately called by its inhabitants, is one of the great cosmopolitan cities of the United States, with a special feature that differentiates it from other regions, and is that it has the widespread reputation of hosting the warmest and friendliest population located to the north of the country, specifically in the region of the great lakes. Personally, it is relative, but I can corroborate it partly because it is my new place of residence.

Historically the city, like many places in the world, counts and conserves elements of its ancestral origin of its first inhabitants, that is, the Illinois natives, then the subsequent establishment of the diverse immigrant populations in the region such as: Poles, Asians, (Japanese, Chinese and Filipinos to a large extent), Mexicans, French, Italians, Germans, Arabs … and the odd Colombo – Venezuelan lost like me on the map. Cultural diversity is one of its charms and strengths. By excellence it is one of the industrial centers of the country and the birthplace of the first scratch built in the world “Wrigley Building”. Also, place of action of the famous and emblematic Al Capone, liquor smuggler during the twenties.

Among the places of interest are the famous Downtown (Chicago Loop) with high skyscrapers, wide roads, rustic elevated metro lines, restaurants, theaters and elevated bridges. On the other hand, I also recommend visiting Navy Pier (find restaurants and boulevards next to Lake Michigan), Chicago ‘L’, Millennium Park, the Field Museum, the Planetarium, the Harold Washington Library and Willis Tower. I really enjoyed walking and getting to know the northern area called “Lake View” where the best bars and nightclubs are.

Transportation is very efficient, getting lost can happen if the Modus Operandi of it is not well known because it is a very big city, I say this from experience. In the same way, it is not necessary to have a car to move around. Chicago is a city that offers a peaceful place to live and have fun. It offers a high cultural and gastronomic agenda, not to mention other places of interest that are outside the city and that are also interesting as my favorite restaurant of Brazilian and Portuguese food “Fogo de Chão” where everyone deserves to go out and get hold of the door, literally. As for the weather, the four seasons are presented, you should only be afraid of the cold winter, but the rest of the year is cool and sometimes warm. Now, there are no excuses to visit the Windy City. A city you will never finish discovering…

Good trip!!!
